Minutes of September's Executive Committee Meeting

1.   NEXT MEETING

The next ADIHA general assembly monthly meeting will be held on Friday, October 27, 2000. The location and agenda will be announced soon.

2.   Minutes of Last Month's Meeting

3.     The meeting was called to order at 7:30 PM, Fritzner Nau presiding.  The meeting took place at the president’s home in New Jersey.  ADIHA takes the opportunity to thank Evelyne Nau for her hospitality and especially for a delicious dinner.

4.   Correspondence

ADIHA received an invitation from National Organization for the Advancement of Haitians (NOAH) and Haitian Holiday Festival (HHF) to their fifth annual gala symposium that will take place at Four Seasons Hotel located in Washington, DC on September 28-30, 2000.  That event coincided with a White House Briefing on business development in Haiti titled Haiti Summit 2000. Mrs. Nau, Gibbs, Michel, myself along with Ms. Myriam Decime all participated to both events.  A report is forthcoming and will soon be posted on this site.

5.   General assembly meeting

The discussion focused on the need to have a next general assembly meeting in a town hall style meeting similar to the one we had at Planet Malibu. Mr. Nau has already invited other organizations and he encouraged us to invite as many organizations as possible. The aim is to strengthen our relationship with all socio-professional organizations in the community. We plan to invite engineering college students from all surrounding universities in addition to the organizations that attended the last meeting.

6.   ADIHA Annual Fund Raising Party

Mr. Fritz J. Nau was tasked to investigate the possibility of having our fund raising party this year on a Hudson River Cruise Ship. He has since visited the ship and the tentative date of December 2 has been retained for the event.  The ship can accommodate 600 participants.  So it behooves on all of us to make the event a success by selling as many tickets as possible.  Each executive committee member has pledged to sell at least 10 ticket. We will have a live DJ and a varied buffed of hot and cold dish.  We will start ticket distribution as soon as a contract is signed.

7.   Update on Fund Raising for Church in Haiti

Rev. Father Devalcin requested our help in the building of his parish church in Haiti.  A few members answered in the positive.  The deadline for contributing was set for the end of January. Those of you, who pledged, please have the check ready to be collected and transmitted to Haiti as soon as possible.

8.   Upcoming Seminar

ADIHA was selected to organize the next conference to be held in Haiti under CIATH tutelage.  April 2001 was the date chosen.  We were in the process of putting the organizing committee together, but in a meeting with Mr. Samuel Pierre, CIATH’s President, he suggested that the date might not be appropriate because a new administration is supposed to take over the country in February. We will ask Mr. Pierre to make his recommendation in writing to ADIHA.

9.   Membership Fee

It’s this time of the year again.  Yes members, membership dues are due.  As you probably know, we depend on the membership fee to function.  We do not receive stipends from any organizations and we always manage to complete a full set of projects every year, always free to the public.  Remember, we are a non-profit organization, so your contribution may be tax deductible. The fee is usually reimbursable by the company you work for, please consult your HR department.  Please, continue to help in a good cause. Mr. Fritzner Nau has drafted a letter addressed to all ADIHA members requesting the membership due.  Please respond positively and let's keep the ADIHA strong.

10.        Grant

After some research I have encountered the process of listing the ADIHA on the list of organizations on “ Combined Federal Campaign” for the northeast region.  Everyone is encouraged to investigate the possibility of adding our name to their company’s list of charitable organizations.

11.        Miscellaneous

Ernesto Etienne, Gerard Marc, Fritzner Bechette, Fritzner Nau, Fritz Nau Gerald Lezeau and myself represented the association at a meeting with President Rene Preval last September 8, 2000 in Manhattan.  It was an excellent occasion for us to acquaint ourselves with Haiti's present administration.  The meeting was well attended and by all measures a great success. We learned a great deal from the questions and answers session.
